It’s Florida, USA.... and the first major motorsports event of each year, The Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. The legendary endurance classic race brings the heat (already?), the humidity (always!), and the long darkness that never ends, to challence the motorsports teams of the world. It's the gear changes, thousands of gear shifts, every hour…..after hour, after hour, for 24. The cars, the pitstops, the driver teams, the strategies, all brought to defeat a small patch of pavement near the world’s most famous beach. The new Daytona Prototype chassis is the top class of the Rolex Sports Car Series. Fabcar, Multimatic, Picchio, Riley & Scott and Crawford are the "new names" in sports car racing, powered by Ford and Chevrolet. Toyota, Maserati and BMW engines are in the mix now too. We remember the IMSA Jaguars and Corvettes of old and welcome the Grand Touring class Saleen S7Rs, Dodge Vipers, Mosler MT900R and Marcos Manteras of today. The 24 Hours of Daytona has always been turbo Porsches, Ferraris, plus American muscle car Camaros and Mustangs. Since the first "24" in 1962 (it was really only a 3-hour race that year) exotic prototype sports cars from the world over have visited the 3.56 mile oval and infield road course combination that is the Daytona International Speedway... the world center of racing... for one long weekend each year. .
