The Audi R8 is argueably the most successful, dominant sportscar chassis and engine since worldwide motorsports racing resumed after WW2.
In the five consecutive FIA sportscar seasons of Y2K, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, the Audi R8 chassis achieved 3 consecutive victories
at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 5 consecutive wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring, European championships and the 5 annual ALMS championship titles
in the American Le Mans Series. The driving team of Emmanuele Pirro, Tom Kristensen and Frank Biela were paired
up for the last factory sponsored effort in 2002, but worked in combination with other drivers in the prior years. Tom Kristensen now
holds the distiction of being the only driver to win LeMans 3 years in a row. The new 2006 Audi R10 TDI V-12 Diesel prototype sportscar may continue the streak. |
